Pro Bono

At Galicia, helping others is part of our culture, and we are committed to giving back to our community. We firmly believe involving members across practice areas in Pro Bono work has several advantages, including its significant contribution to our lawyers´ personal development. We also believe having equal access justice will improve our society.

Many members of our firm, including the legal and business teams as well as the Pro Bono Committee, go a step beyond their job requirements and are active participants in clearinghouse boards, civil society organizations (OSC) and non-profit organizations, such as Abogadas MX, Centro Mexicano Pro Bono, Estandares Pro Bono Mexico, Fundación Barra Mexicana Abogados and Appleseed Mexico, among others.

Our Program

We have implemented a formal procedure for approving Pro Bono cases. All cases must be submitted to the Pro Bono Committee, setting forth a description of the case, outlining beneficiaries and tending to those most in need – whether it be a vulnerable group in our society and community or an organization that assists these vulnerable groups. The following factors are what the Pro Bono Committee considers before approving a case: (i) Nature of the case, (ii) Form of assistance requested, (iii) Necessary legal knowledge, (iv) Actual conflict of interest, (v) Availability of firm resources, (vi) If the issue deals with a particular group of clients, and (vii) Financial situation of the pro bono client(s).

Our program is dedicated to helping vulnerable groups and organizations that support said groups. We are very proud of the Pro Bono work we do, the impact it has on society´s most vulnerable groups and of following the philosophy of helping those with the most need.

The firm has implemented a specific mechanism/methodology to track Pro Bono work, including a case approval process. The Pro Bono Committee reviews the case to determine if it complies with our internal manual, Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas and Estandares Pro Bono Mexico.

Our firm has a target of at least 20 pro bono hours per individual per annum. The motivators of doing pro bono work are, among others: (i) 1 Professional duty to society, (ii) PBDA commitment, (iii) Retaining talent, and (iv) Maintaining or developing client relationships
